August 03 Lake Crescent and cobwebsWow, let me just clear out the cobwebs on this page... Has it really been a month since i've been here?! Oh the friends i've neglected!!!
This summer has been moving faster than the speed of light... or the speed of my childrens growth,... which is faster than the speed of light latley. We've been having a great summer and camping and hiking. Back to the Oregon coast in 12 days for more surfing. Then a week at the lake after that to wrap up the summer. The kids have been so busy and trying new things. Ethan will turn 6 next week. Alica's Baby, Reese, is getting so big. She's almost 2 months old. She's awake alot now and her eyes have gotten so bright. You can actually watch her learning as she looks at things. It's so amazing.
Well i would say that i promise i'll write more but the way this summer has been going, that will probaby be a lie... so i will say this. I'll post cool pics when i get them and spew out a blurb when i can but other than that... i'm enjoying my summer and i'll be back more in the fall.
Nikki July 05 Summer trip! The trip was a huge success. We left on a Thursay and headed over to Lake Crescent, my gem of a lake on the Olympic Peninusla. It was the start of the heat wave and my dad was in a particularly nice mood so he brought the boat out for us to use. We had a great time at the lake and did alot of swimming. Brad and Ethan both jumped off the dock numerous times (first time ever for Ethan). Steve and Brad snorkeled and found some junk which overjoyed Brad. Our campsite is really shaded so even when it was 90F it wasnt too hot in our camp. We made a side trip from the lake and drove up to Hurricane Ridge in the heart of Olympic National Park. It was a perfect day. This place is hit or miss for the view, if there are clouds you cant see anything... we lucked out. The deer there were alarmingly friendly. I think the boys spooked before the deer did. After our 5 nights at Lake Crescent we packed up and left at 6am on Tuesday for the drive down the coast. We arrived at our campground at 11 which was perfect and just what we planned. Oswald West State Park only has about 20+ campsites and it's first come first serve. We hiked the 1/2 mile down to the campground and found our site, which happened to be the best one there. All of the sites are super private and surrounded by huge fir and cedar trees and 9 foot tall shrubs. It was heaven. We scored a wheelbarrow and after 3 trips (and 3 miles) had hauled our gear into our home for the next 4 nights. The ocean was a short walk from our site about 1/4 mile. The beach there is called Short Sands and it is a popular spot for surfers. Steve bought a new long board in Seaside and tried it out on the first day and decided he's a short board guy. The whim hit me to give it a shot so i tried it too. (for some reason i forgot about the whole being shark food thing). I tried on 2 of the days. I caught some waves but never tried to stand. I was just getting the feel of it. We decided we're going to loose some weight and take more frequent weekend surfing trips to Oregon. I am really excited to learn and Steve is really excited to carve. The boys had a blast building sand castles and rerouting the creek that emptied into the sea and just being kids at the beach. I had a blast drinking Honeywood wine and salt water . (ewww) We went to the Tillamook Cheese Factory and had ice cream and also got some Honey from a stand for a friend. On Saturday we packed up and left Oswald West this time hauling our stuff uphill back to the truck 3 trips... Wheew! We drove to Lincoln City to our nice hotel on the beach. We had some stuff we wanted to do in Lincoln City but we didnt get arround to any of it. We were so tired we took showers and slept. It was an awesome trip and i cant wait to do it again. June 22 Hit the road Jack!!!Well i'm about 45 mins from blowin this popsicile stand!!! We are off and running on our first camping trip of the season. We will be staying 5 nights at Lake Crescent and wakeboarding and playing in the lake...then off down the coast to Ozwald West campground for 4 nights. This is a campground right on the Oregon coast, you have to wheelbarow your stuff down to the sites and it's beautiful. The last night is a comfy hotel in Lincoln City Oregon before we hit the fantastic Champagne Sunday Brunch at Spanish Head, then it's back up I5 and home on Sunday evening.... 10 days gone camping water everywhere.. Whoo Hoo!!!
Nikki June 17 Pressure DropI think the carnival ride is over... vacations on the horizon.
Well i'm alot less itchy for those who care. Ava graduated from 8th grade last night. It's hard to believe she's a high school student now. When i got together with Steve she was 7, the age of my oldest son Brad... so it's scary for me to know how fast those 7 years go. The little boys finished up their school year today. They are now 1st and 2nd graders! Wowie! My father in law came to visit from Galveston, TX. He'll be here for the next 3 weeks. He has to give a seminar in Victoria BC next weekend but then we'll see him some more.
The big news... Alicia FINALY had her baby. She was 9 days overdue and induced on Wednesday. She labored all day and progressed well but at about 7pm the Dr came to check on her and at that exact time the baby's heartrate droped...low. It's supposed to be arround 140ish and she dropped to 40. Suddenly her hospital room was a hornets nest of Drs and Nurses and they threw her on a gurney and wheeled her away for an emergency C-section. It was terrifying. Truely. Alicia was crying when they wheeled her out and Matt (daddy) was in tears and miraculously in scrubs told to "follow her". The surgery went well and baby was ok, there was no reason for heart rate drop she just appears to not have liked labor. Alicia got to go home just a few hours ago. Baby Reese is doing great and so is my best friend Alicia. I'm so glad everything's over and ok, ...but we all know it's just the begining.
*** oh the ladybug. Alicia collects ladybugs. She has for a long time. While she was in labor resting in her bed a ladybug crawled onto her pillow. I just thought that was neat that her bug appeared on such an important day for her.
Now that all of the big events of the last 2-3 weeks are over i am just so tired ;) it's like the adrenaline is drained out of me and now i must sleep. I took a good nap today. Now the next big thing is to prepare for our first 9 day camping trip starting next week. I'll be arround to visit shortly. Thanks to all for the great comments.
June 10 Yea DRU!YEA DRU!!!
Last nights Graduation was awesome! We are so proud of our DRU. Everything went off without a hitch. Dru's family even made it from PA. His mom and his sister came up to see the Graduation and that was SO awesome. The ceremony was fun and not too long, the speeches were good and made me laugh. I sneaked down to the field to take pictures when it was time for him to walk.
There was a picture frenze after the ceremony. Tanya, Steve's X wife, Ava decorated/vandalized Dru's car. That was really fun. Everyone came back to our place after and indulged in Dru's Cheesecake. It was really fun. He was really happy and surrounded by people who really cared about him. Go DRU!
I'm really tired so i'm going to go sleep now.. more benadryl. I promise i'll be arround to visit everyone soon!
June 09 Oh WowHoly Smokes, I've had so many hits on this thing the counter is smoking! Thanks so much to everyone who stopped by and left a nice comment. I promise i'll be arround to visit every one of you in the next day or two.
As predicted i've spent the entire week in a benadryl induced coma. I've been sleeping constantly and i did have to miss the kindergarten field trip, I cant drive, much less look after 5 yr olds. The swelling in my face and hands is gone but i'm still super itchy. My husband took a day off work just to keep an eye on me *sweet*. Still no word on the cause. I've decided that i'm going to keep on the steroids that the Dr gave me but tomorow i'm going cold turkey off the benadryl. Andrew is graduating tomorow and i want to be awake and prepared.
Andrew requested for his 'special treat' to be a neapolitain cheesecake. One of my personal specialties. I'll wake up early in the am and go and get the suplies to make it. His graduation festivities start at about 6:30pm. I will have pics posted by Saturday morning at the latest. I am SO PROUD OF HIM! His twin brother came up to stay with us for a few days to attend the graduation. I think Andrew has really enjoyed having him arround the last few days.
Alicia has still not had the baby, she's now almost 4 days overdue. She has an apointment for induction scheduled for Wednesday but her Dr is sure she'll make it on her own before then. I'm just waiting... by the phone... waiting... Tomorow i'll drag her arround with me to Costco and shopping and on a bumpy car ride and see if i can help her along.
The kids are so excited for the end of the school year. Tomorow is thier last "friday" so everything now is going to be the 'last'. I am excited for all of the summer camping trips and hikes and outings. I am not the 'what-am-i-going-to-do-with-the-kids-home-all-summer' kind of moms, i welcome it.. Bring it on! I'll wear em' out!
